Program Insights
How should cities be re-designed to allow them to tackle the increasing challenges they are facing? What are the possible solutions for the contradictions that are arising in cities worldwide (i.e. urban security and segregation, urban health governance, climate change, inclusive urban economic development, disruptive impact of technology on emerging forms of economics and finance)? Cities are economic spaces, generating more than 70% of the world’s GDPs. Today, more than 50% of world population lives in cities. It is expected that by 2030 more than 65% of the global population will live in cities. The goal of this course is to provide participants with a body of knowledge to guide them through the observation and analysis of cities from an interdisciplinary, evidence-based and innovative approach to understand complex but incomplete systems known as cities. The course focuses on the following topics: cities’ role in global governance, international law and city diplomacy, urban economics and management, urban law and governance, urban technology and smart cities, urban journalism and storytelling.
